A friend picked up an efm 520 and had this as the burn pot bottom....

What is it and why is it different than all the others that I've seen?

Thanks

Mike

That is a very old air chamber. Only the early models look like that.

Thankfully it appears to be in good shape.

Ok...so is there any reason to put the air holes in the feed tube then?

Good question. The holes won't hurt anything.

Maybe being able to use the holes to control fumes moving up the auger is part of why the gooseneck got moved to the inside of the air chamber?

Yes, that is an old one. I would check to see that it is actually a 520. Some of those old ones are actually 350's.

Also, I would double check that area at the bottom where the rope gasket will meet the bottom of the grates. It looks like it has a lot of wear.

It is actually pretty good condition...unlike mine when I got it...had to rebuild it buy welding in a new retaining ring + flange....

I agree. It's from a 350.

350 and 520 pots are the same except for the top ash ring, the 520 is 1/2 bigger then a 350 also 350 mechanism only fed up to 6 teeth, this pot is early 50s no need for air holes wont justify anthing since it will be covered by the goose neck

The bottom where the rope gasket goes for the bottom of the grates is in good shape assemble and you should be fine
