We had our first heat call on October 5th this year... For the past 8 years, it's been mid September. With CI radiators, it may only run once or twice in the morning with this type of weather.

I started my boiler Oct 11 last year. I am holding out until i need to. Looks like the last week in October i will 'need' to get it going daytime highs in 50s lows in the 30s.

Hi Everybody,
My Honeywell wifi thermostat(s) have kicked on for a few minutes each morning since I fired up my Van Wert VA-600 Stoker last Wednesday, so now the oil burner is on stand by until we get those 15F daytime temps then both kick in... especially on cold windy mornings. I burn about 5 to 6 ton rice coal per year. Anthracite Coal heat is the very best.

A few of the nearby back yard weather stations surrounding my house are showing 33-34 degrees on Weather Underground this morning. The highest one in my area is reading 37 degrees. And temperatures will likely fall a bit more over the next ~2 hours until the sun shows up.

You're a little colder than us this morning. Our nearest station is showing 38 right now. KPAFREEL2 is less than 10 miles away and within 100 foot in elevation.

I have 35 here this morning Larry, right in line with yesterday’s 36. I was out in the fields putting down lime long before dawn and the frost was not very heavy.
Half inch of rain tomorrow I hear.

It’s 30 here with a good frost, will probably drop to 28 before the sun comes up, boiler is purring out in the building and the Tstats are cycling. Friday’s high is 45 with a low of 27, chance of snow.

What is this 'frost' that you speak of...
Tropical 55*...
Just the usual maritime moisture...

Compared to where you're at, this is indeed the tropics.
