I think you guys are getting a little crazy here, to quote my old wrestling coach "Give me enough leverage and I will move the world." I was moving the 1500 pound Van Wert around by myself.

Use the pallet jack to get it close to where you want it, roughly about 4 feet way. Use some large crow bars to bar it off the pallet onto some one inch pipes and roll it into position. Pipes are easily removed.... Once you have it sitting on the floor you should only need to do some small adjustments. If you have tractor that can take some of the weight getting it righ where you want it should be very easy step.

Just remember to keep your hands and fingers in the car at all times.

Here is the way I placed my Harman boiler. Roll it in place on pallet jack. Take a 4x4 and 2 adjustable lally columns. Securely use columns to press 4x4 into ceiling. Use 4x4 to hoist boiler from pallet with chain hoist, & lower onto concrete bricks. Sand & patch the Sheetrock later. Don't overthink it.

A good '' rigger'' will do this for you , and it will not cost much. They move huge machines every day.

A broken anything is expensive .

I move this sort of stuff , but old-timers gave me lots of tricks to stay out of harms way .

Given that the OP stated the ceiling is 13' high, coalder's method doesn't seem very promising here. More generally, I'd be wary of relying on compression of drywall, or the strapping under it, as any kind of stabilizing element in the handling of an 850+ lb load. Better to use a pallet jack, engine hoist, Johnson bar, set of pipes, loader, etc. - almost anything that keeps the forces in play under reasonable control.

There it is! I will check in with them when I pick it up to make sure this is indeed ok, but assuming it is, this is the ticket!

If you live near me, I have both, a single fork pallet jack, and an engine hoist. You are welcome to borrow either one. I used the engine hoist for my boiler. The single fork pallet jack I think would be better. I didn't have the pallet jack at the time of my installation. The engine hoist worked good.

That is very generous of you. Thank you so much! It looks like we live a significant distance apart, assuming you are still on NY. My neighbor had a pallet jack, so we should be ok. Tomorrow is the day I believe!!

Updated! Just got back from AHS. 6 hours of driving later, I have a coal gun! It is a used model (2008 I believe), but it was never fired or installed. Sort of used/new. Anyway, got a decent deal on it because of that. It came with the belt drive fan which I guess was standard on the 2008s. Round hopper rather than square. Pretty cool looking unit. Tomorrow I unload it and start reading up on installation.

think I used 4 bottle jacks 2 4x4's and some blocking. put in place on shipping pallet. took off ash doors, slid 4x,s thru front and back side of door opening.. just make shure you have enough jack out to lower to floor if not rest on 2xs then re pick. worked twice for me

Ok. This has gone on long enuf! Get three 12' 2x4's. Tie them together on one end. Open them above the boiler like a teepee. Use that for a lift point. Works real good. Rigged quite a few boilers out of basements like that. Worked on a VanWert 800 out of a set of bilco doors in Scranton one time. Used them to get boiler into the bed of a pickup too.

I used a car jack lifting up corners and hammering pallet out of boiler. Before I to so, I used a chain saw cutting pallet underneath. Then I put 2х4 blocks under each leg, jacked it up and replaced blocks with a snowmobile's rolls. Then started to roll very gently.
Then juck up again and finally remove snowmobile rolls......my boiler weights over 1500 and it did work.
