Well, looks like we are done with most of the heating season now. Last week it was nice and warm here in Ct. (chilly today) , and I was using a-lot of coal.

My boiler heats a DHW coil all year.

Just for a try, I closed the ball valves at the top of the primary loops. This reduced the coal pigs intake by 4 grain scoops a day.

I know it's not possible to do this for all hydronic users but ghost flows can eat up your coal this time of year.

Dave - why don't you have flow checks in those zones?

Morning Rob,
Someday I may put in a couple of them. They would be nice.

When I started on this journey of coal and hydronics I knew much less than I know now. And I still learn stuff !

The most important things seam to be overlooked.

If you know anyone in the heating business, tell them to keep an eye out for a used set. They last nearly forever and old ones usually get scrapped.

That's true.

It's crazy how much stuff gets scraped. The junkyard here has a couple ton of copper and brass fittings every month. Some have never been used .

Never thought about isolating the zones for the Summer. Great tip!
