Last week the temps here were really dipping so I increased the feed on my KA2 by 2 turns. Then on Saturday morning I I advertently adjusted the mixing valve to cooler water going out. Well the day warmed up the boiler overshot!! The extra hot water generated extra hot water for my DHW tank and popped the relief.
A few minutes of adjusting and turning on a loop brought everything under control.
Got a nice clean floor and some extra humidity in the basement!

You don't have a dump zone?

Cellar floor. ;)

But seriously, I sort of understand a dump zone -- something like a few old radiators that can absorb the extra heat. Is that coupled with some kind of "emergency" controls that shut down the boiler?

I don't have a automatic dump zone. I manually trigger the second floor pump. This is the first time in 8 years.

A Honeywell l4006b (what Keystoker provides with new boilers) or an l6006a can be wired to your TT terminals to provide a dump zone using one of your existing house zones (I only have one zone so it dumps to my radiators). Use an empty well or choose a strap on model to put on the supply pipe. Definitely safer and provides a piece of mind...

You should hook up a dump zone, especially if you are not passing through timer circuit through a high limit control.

I am not an expert but Rob is right I went the extra step and put a L4006H into the power going to the boiler and set it to 230*f if it reaches that temperature it shuts the boiler down

I can go to work now and not worry if I am going to over heat my system to the point of no return (been there done that)

I hope that this helps
