Don, if you read the forums for the outdoor wood boiler guys, many who pipe with the Logstor/Thermopex for even 200 foot runs report losing only 1 or 2 degrees of temperature from boiler to the end of the line.
The Delta T is only part of the equation. The bigger part is how many BTU's you loose per hour. This doesn't seem to be a problem for OWB's because wood is "free".

I am only trying to make the point that with a normal residential boiler, coal, gas or oil, you will not get away with this logic, it will bite you.

I lost the boiler as well lucky I did not burn down my house it took the boiler almost 8 hrs. to cool down so that I could put water in it to see if it would hold water which it did not.
OUCH!!!

Why didn’t the manual dump zone work?

Hand feds are a lot different than stokers when we discuss over heating, Ive ran one, yes they are a little more worry some.

But I guess thank god you didn’t have any pex in your system or else!
The reason the manual dump did not work is I had it set up to open the valve when or if I lost power so it would gravity feed I never lost power so the valve stayed closed lesson learned

I'm quite thankful that little harm came of this incident. Hindsight is 20-20, but it seems the solution here is to leave a gravity feed dump zone openly active at all times. No valves on it.

I like this solution! Do you have TRV's on the HWB's for each room?
No TRV's. I have thermostat on each zone and setup for a number of zones.

Every degree lost to underground piping requires roughly 3-1/3% more coal to be burned. A moderate 3 degrees of temperature loss adds roughly 10% to your annual heat bill.
