I have had a very enjoyable and warm month to get used to my new friend. I have been feeding it a mix of rice, nut and pea but mostly rice , that's what I have the most of. Its doing fine, I have the temp for ashing at 130 ,, my question is this, I have always felt the fire was a little high in the burn chamber and I have been hesitant to change the setting. I am getting some pieces of hot slag, ash that spit out the flapper when the unit is not running, its making a little mess on the ledge of boiler where the top and bottom mate, it has not been a big deal but also it gets in the floor. Nothing to burn there,, all concrete,, but if I could get it to burn a little lower in the pot I don't think it could spit the embers out in the floor. I have not had but one puffback, I was not in the room, I have on occasion heard a rumble,, like thunder but it only lasts for 5 seconds or so,, its never done it while I was in the boiler room or even in the shop,, any input will be appreciated. I have endless hot water, and house and garage are in the mid 70's 19 outside right now with 15mph wind,, gusting to 23. I actually shut the beast down last night as the outside temps were in the mid 40's and it got to 80 in the house,, window open to sleep!!!!! such a wonderful problem to have 3 bags a day seems to be the norm.(heating 5000 sq ft with R-30) thru radiant in slab and occasional blast from the water to air coil.

This is totally normal. Do not change the settings to try to keep coal and ash from spitting out the sight hole.

That is the "ROAR", also perfectly normal. When you have a good fire going and the ashing grate moves, it feeds fresh coal on top of the fire. The "ROAR" is the volital gasses being burned off in the swirl chamber. On mine it kind of sounds like a chimney fire. A little scary the first time I heard it!

As a side note, you shouldn't keep posting new threads about your project. It makes it very difficult for people to figure out what you are doing and what you are asking. If it is all in one thread, it's easy to find out what you started with and where you are going.

Anyway, it sounds like that beast is running really well, and with no real teething pains. Nice!

The glass view port flapper gives a great visual of the blue fire...but she is no dancing blue lady!

On my Rookie season with the AA I had the most impressive blue roar while burning UAE Harmony's Buckwheat from Mt Carmel deep mine.

Yup all is ok, mine will do the same with spitting out little pieces, it’s the fresh coal breaking apart, kind of exploding a little, and the roar is typical too.. like mcgiever said, stick to one topic, unless you wanna talk about something different.
