Clean out plates welded in

I just bought a used efm 520 and found out the Clean out plates are welded in ☹ what would you guys do leave them alone or try to grind them off and replace the holding rods?? I did add a small clean out door in the back of my base maybe I could use a small brush Thanks Randy

I think on older boilers the steel plates are welded in at the factory. Just put the brush in behind them to do your cleaning.

That access plate in the back works better if you make it 8inches wide by 16 inches high. Having it higher makes it way easier to brush the plate area out. I just stick a vacuum hose in there next to my arm while brushing the plates down. A good brush to use is the one Rob Roy showed me. It's a BBQ grill brush from Lowes. I put a small extension on it like you would for a paint roller. You have to make it the right length. Not too long. You can brush your boiler out with out letting it go out first if you come in from the back.

Yes I have the plate and it looks good , I think I'll fill the boiler with water and put 30 psi of air in it just to make sure there's no leaks before I set on the base. I see now why people want the square door they are easier to clean
