I have a circulator between my KA2 and my water heater tank, electric with the elements off. How important is it to drain this tank as if the elements were being used?
Thanks!

Do you mean to flush out sediment/mineral deposits?

My thoughts are that draining the tank once per year can't hurt anything. If you get a bunch of minerals out, drain it 2x per year.
I would also backflush the coil into a pail and see if you get anything out of it.

Its even more important to check the coil for leaks by removing the connections and installing a 1/2 plug on one side and a reducer bushing and Shraeder valve on the other to check for a leak in the coil.
I no longer use the coil on my KAA-4-1 as it has a leak in it and I need to find a replacement coil that is a trombone coil or simply remove it and put a plain cover back in its place.
