I also use the indirect with an electric water heater. Normally the cold water goes into the indirect set at 140 and then into the electric water heater set at 130. So the element in the electric only comes on to maintain temperature. It never sees 50 degree well water. I also have valves installed so I can use the indirect only or the electric only.

Mine too, indirect 119 gallon with an 80 gallon electric HW, just the 2 tanks with the 1 having 2 HX coils plus 3 ways for the solar HW and "water to water" geothermal HW.
Summertime excess gets "dumped" into the swimming pool w/ another external HX.

Should I hold out for a larger tank? I expect to occasionally require 240 gallons of hot water in the first hour of use (family of 8).

I'm not sure if that level of operation would be possible without a larger reserve to accumulate hot water during off-peak heating times. I think the Harman will be pretty operating close to capacity when we have sub-zero temperatures.

Yes, way bigger tank...that VF-3000 is one small boiler even if/when just heating the house...people here have had shortages with a lot fewer family members.

HINT: Look for 120 gallon or larger SOLAR HW tank...

Page 6 of PDF will give rating and what size boiler output...
Go with the biggest tank if you want that kind of output...
Unless you have a spare 120k btu/hr on the boiler...
At that design outdoor temp...

I believe his boiler is maxed at 85K BTU/Hr...nothing much extra for HW

Looks like stor-ex may be out of business.

Do you think this Turbomax 119 gallon tank would fit the bill?

 For your family of 8 that is great size if the recovery rate is decent.

I would plan on using a multispeed circulator, or installing a globe valve so you can throttle the flow from the boiler to that beast. Otherwise it will probably put your VF3000 on its knees until the indirect is satisfied.

Did you ever get the VF3000 running? or are you still working on the house/install?

The VF3000 is up and running. I'm not sure I'm running it efficiently, but it's heating the house. It's doing a lot better now that I swapped out one of the failed 007s.

Do you think $500 is a good price for that tank?

Off the top of my head, I think the TurboMax 119 goes for somewhere around $4,500 new.

If it holds water, yes. Those are very expensive water heaters.

Any idea how old it is?

Manufacture date of 2012. I guess it's probably worth the trip to Long Island.

Alright, I bought the Turbomax on eBay. I have an unused zone with a TACO 007 on my manifold that I want to use for this tank. The water heater has 2" connections on it. Shouldn't I be fine feeding it with the existing 3/4" copper? The concern seemed to be feeding it too quickly, right?
