Does anyone else have coal crumbs fall out of slot in bottom of transfer head in the bearing area? Last 4 years I had a can to collect them, but a few weeks ago I covered the hole up and now the bearing makes a low noise , every with plenty of oil in the Oiler...Are you supposed to let the crumbs fall out and make a little mess?

Let the crumbs fall out. It is all part of the experience.

There are brass wear parts in there that get oiled...fix them or just keep on catching the grit...

Mine spit them out new. It's the nature of the beast, it huffs and spits. Think of it as an unruly child, with a bit of dragon.

Don actually made a bracket to hold a container that catches the crumbs.

I asked Pete Axeman about this a few weeks ago. He said that normally they should only spit out a few crumbs once in a while. If crumbs are coming out constantly, The brass bearing or the removable gland ring may be worn out.

I knew about the brass, but I didn't know there was gland ring in there with the packing ring. My 1991 130M really spit out a lot of crumbs. After I talked to Pete I looked at the transfer head and realized that the removable gland ring was gone! No wonder it spit out so many crumbs.

None here, I was taken aback that a catch cup was a standard arrangement... but it is often this way I find lately.
