I was unsuccessfull when I did a search so I thought to ask!
Ash Pan round or square? I thought I remembered a thread about someone fabricating new Ash pans. This would be for my KA2. My tubs are showing their age!

Custom sounds cool, but tractor supply or similar has the galvanized tubs in stock.

I have been using the Tractor Supply ones. Wondering about a square one as it would hold more ash. Even a homemade version would be an idea.

For the money a 4 gallon galvanized Behlens pail is a much better choice and you can stack a brood heard of them in one place and also bring coal to the stoker in them.

I have been using a small herd of 4 gallon buckets from Tractor Supply and and I usually change them out when I have about three gallons of ash in them and set the hot bucket aside to cool off before I take it out and dump it in a coal bag.

You will lose a little fly ash to the floor of the ash pit but with my burning buckwheat anthracite I am burning less coal and I have a better fire too so I have no complaints.

In using the four gallon pails I am easily able to dump them in my old kimmels coal bags and I can pack three pails worth of ashes and clinkers in each bag and I use the wire bag ties I get from my coal dealer to seal up the bags after I fill them. Tying the bags back up certainly makes putting them in the dump trailer easier too without spillage.

I was hoping to have a bit more input! The reason I am thinking square is more capacity.
Oliver Powers didn't you fabricate some?

I can still make a custom ash pan, but prices are nuts. Steel has gone up and shipping makes it near impossible. It's certainly way cheaper if you can find a factory made pan that works. If all else fails, get a stack of Grants & contact me! ( in reality, it's pretty easy to spend almost $100 for one delivered)

Yes, I did make a couple aluminum ones. Very happy with them. They will never rot out. Been overwhelmed in work. However, I'll see if I can make you up a couple. How bad are yours?

Oliver, thanks for the update! What is the size? I was thinking I might pick up some sheet metal and make a prototype.

Aluminum is much better. You'll never have to replace them again. 13" x 16-1/4" x 8-1/2" high (Deep).

Does anyone know of a downside to using aluminum or SS ash pans. Iv been using a home mader and i love it. lightweight and it beats the rotted out galvanized that last me less than 1 season. Max a little over 1 season. looking to buy another aluminum or ss ash tub but cant find a supplier online.

I figured that ,the aluminum one my son made for me is pretty thick, about 1/16 " thick yet very lightweight and holds twice the ashes as the round tub
