ACCORDING TO THE SPECS, IT IS MEANT FOR PEA OR BUCK--- THE SMALLEST PARTICLE IN BUCK IS 5/16 ACCORDING TO WHAT I CAN FIND, I HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF RICE ON HAND, ITS SMALLEST IS 3/16 I THINK THE CHART SAID, UP TO 5/16.. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG,,, THEN THERE IS THIS GUY IN THE NORTHWEST BEATING UP BIT COAL WITH A HAMMER AND FEEDING A 130... APPEARS ITS WORKING,, HOW WOULD ONE GO ABOUT USING THE RICE I HAVE IN THE 260,,, COULD IT BE MIXED WITH PEA BEFORE PUTTING IN THE HOPPER,? HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERICENCE WITH BURNING ANYTHING OTHER THAN BUCK OR PEA IN AN AHS COAL GUN?

No experience in anything but straight pea, but I would bet it would work just fine, you would just have to make adjustments until it works properly.

One can only try...
They do burn buck in the AA/AHS boilers...
They do get down rated for the buck...
The tall column of rice may make it hard to breath...
So a mix may be the cure to burning the Rice...

Some guys have burned rice in them before. It burns ok, but reduces the capacity quite a bit. I would mix it in with pea.

This is the AHS 260 that I will be installing soon, its an older model, but has never been installed and has been stored in a dry building. Thanks go out to Dave1234 for hooking me up with his friend up north and making this probably the best Christmas present I could have ever hoped for... I know its not got all the fancy stuff the new units do and when I called AHS to talk to them about if it could benfit from any upgrades and tried to learn a little about this unit,, they told me the new coal guns were now carrying a $1500 dollar discount right here in heating season,,, cool!!!! 65 for the 130 and 7500 for the 260... just in case anyone is in the market thought I would share that info. This came from Nathanial on Monday of this week. It was manufactured in 2008 but not sure when it was sold.

Wow what a great deal! What do you mean it doesn’t have all the fancy new stuff?? I don’t think there’s anything different on that from a 2018 model??

You need to get a new thread going on this!

I really am not sure what all the changes are but they are mainly in the brand of the controls , They said they changed from Fuji to Love controls and I cant tell which this has, also they have a two mode grate switch on the newer models, not sure what that does either,, I see a wire going to the ashing area so I am hoping this one is like they advertise that is temp controlled ashing and not timer controlled, sometimes newer is not better, so I am looking forward to getting it installed and enjoying it, I am removing my wc 130 tomorrow morning and the gentleman from ny is arriving to take it to its new home,, he is also bringing me about a ton of pea coal since he is coming that way,,, that was a very decent offer of him to do that. In return he is going to spend the night here in our vrbo rental and be rested up for his trip back home.He is bringing me some pea that is hand bagged in 100 lb sacs,, 12 bucks a bag, so not terrible pricing, at all.

Sounds like a great deal... yours has the digital temp controlled ash system. That’s what the screen is for in the black box. One switch should be for ash, and the other for fan? I think.

There are no timers on yours, and it does not need it, it’s all set to go the way it is.

The two mode grate switch I believe allows it to ash whenever it reaches it set point, OR allows it to ash whenever it reaches its set point ONLY when the combustion fan is on, the second is what you want it to do. No puffbacks that way.

Here is the manual I like to refer too.

Would be great to get all this in its own thread..

I am glad you were able to purchase it at a great price.
With the money you saved you should want to contact Axeman Anderson and ask how difficult it would be to marry one of their open augers with a separate electric motor chain drive and gearbox for it to eliminate the hopper. The AHS units are essentially copies of the Axeman Anderson coal stokers.

They is no "plug N play" conversion kit for a AHS CoalGun to be Morphed into a Axeman-Anderson.

However, some clever tinkerer's have found ways to adapt a grain auger to fill their AHS hoppers.

And to auger their ashes outside.

Moderators... time for a new thread!

Or you just call up AHS and buy a auger from them.
