Go ahead and laugh, I am behind this season and cold is setting it ;)

Anyone know the gearbox seal part number and the gear oil to use in Keystone Keystoker KA-6 boiler?

Straight 90w?

Thanks!

I put in what I had. Mobil 1 75-90w synthetic. Up to about 3/4. Looked like new inside ;)

As for the seal, it only lost a little, so no big deal, I guess.

The gearbox is VERY QUIET now. Likely helped by removing all the fines and such. It was a really good cleaning and vacuum job this year.

Glad to hear that it worked out OK.

If I had that question I would just call Keystoker. They have all the answers for that unit.

But isn't this where all the manufacturers come for answers? LOL.

I remember seeing info on here some time back. I did find the oil weight, but the seal was for the KA4, which I think is different from my KA6. Fortunately, I don't think the leak is significant and will just keep an eye on it.

I appreciate the input ;)

As long as the oil isn't pouring out of it, it should be fine. They all leak a little bit.

Sounds like a 7.3L Ford. The oil drops are how you mark your parking spot! LOL.

But seriously, that's good to know.

Excerpt from Keystoker manual:
KEYSTOKER BOILER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
9
Oil the stoker motor and circulator annually with a good grade of light lubricating oil. DO NOT
OVER OIL. Gear box uses #90 gear oil and should be filled from ½ to ¾ full. Oil level can be
measured with wire or straw dipped through top lid of gear box while stoker unit is not running.
Putting this here for future searches and references.

Hey CoalisCoolxWarm
Is that Mobil 1 still working good in your gear box?

It worked through last year quite nicely. I haven't fired up yet this year, though it's soon time.

I'll let you know how it works and how it is when first starting up after sitting all summer ;)

I keep mine going year around. Only shutting down for cleaning and vacations.

I've never had mine idle low enough for that. Maybe some day...

I do have to make a better coal handling setup, though.

Are you using a Coaltrol?

Not sure what that is.

I use rice coal and my red nut was set at 16 turns. Then I work my timer pins to just keep the fire going.

Coaltrol is a Triple Aquastat. What are you using for your Aquastat? I have to replace mine this year and looking at alternatives to consider, or just replace what I have.

Yes, it is doing very well! Quiet and I haven't noticed any leaks/drips? I didn't replace the seals yet, so it is a bit of a mystery.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been doing chemo and radiation 5 days a week and the girls have been mostly doing the coal and stuff. But I'm back at it again and checked last night about 1am when I got home.

I'd say it is a 'winner' to use the Mobil 1 in the gearbox.

Well, now it is leaking out quite a lot. About 2 weeks and it's low enough to be making noise.

Guess I'll have to figure out a Keystoker contact. Last time I tried for a handle, it didn't go so well. One guy at main company was busy or going out of town, local "dealer" doesn't really deal with parts, etc. Never did order the handle.

Did any one ever get a part number for that seal in the gearbox? Maybe something I can cross-reference? I don't think there is a lot of support/parts options for these Keystokers, seems like we have to fend for ourselves.
