I am installing a water to air heat exchanger in my plenum. Currently we have the air conditioning coil in the plenum above the furnace.

In your opinion how close can the two coils be together? I cannot find any info online, so I figured I'd ask the experts.

Anyhow thank you for your time.
Frank

Mine is as close as I could get it so I don't miss any branches but left room to work.

Nice. I'm hoping to use one but if I have to get two smaller ones one for each trunk I will.

I like your insulated duct. Wonder how much of a difference that would make in my house?

I was fortunate that it was there when we bought the house. Not sure if it will be as easy to work with as metal. I'm a little worried about the strength difference when mounting the coils. Figured I'll have to make some brakets to mount them to cieling or something rigid.

Oh, I thought it was sheet metal with insulation over it?

Could I put the heat coil in top of the furnace, and put the air coil (A-frame) on top of that?

Structural wise seems to make sense.

Looking at your setup I would think that would be ideal but there will be others on here that know better than me!

Mine is in the return before the air handler and works fine.

Great idea. That opens up even more options! Dang it to many decisions. That would be much easier than moving the air coil.

I vote return like Kirk did. If I had a single return, I'd do the same.

The cold air return duct would be my first choice too.

It should not matter how close to the A coil it is because your plentium temp will not be above melting point of a plastic drain pan on A coil. I would put it between the furnace and the A coil. I usually leave 2-4" gap when I install them. Avoid the return side if you can. If you install on the return side it must be after the air filter.
