A friend of mine needs to move nut coal from his dump wagon up vertical 10 feet to his bin; Does anyone have experience on how to move it--would an auger work for nut coal? If so what size auger pipe? thanks

A 4" grain auger might work, a 6" would definitely work. The smallest ones are 11 feet long.

I only ever heard of one who tried to move nut and it was tough to move with a small 4" O.D. auger...lots of crunching and wear and tear on coal and machine...bigger is better (6") as *SD* had said.

Of course there are "flex-augers" also if you can keep the slope angle reasonable.
Grain augers are a tad too fast, generally speaking.

Hire a Teramite for a day, it will be cheaper.

Thats kinda what i was thinking. A loader bucket would make short work of moving the coal.

Make sure it has the reach you need. yes the bucket reach is about 10' but then you have to dump it... measure carefully.

True, there ideas may be crude but the brain of a coal burner would have the ability to build upon it and make it better. :shifty:

You are a riot L ,,, now let me see ... the square of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.... hmmm, perhaps to go up 10' plus going over the lip I would need 4 of these step thingies. I then have to suspend three of them somehow. The last time I heard an idea this lousy was when someone suggested I buy a Bolt. Sometimes my extreme sensitivity and the need for PC clouds my ability to communicate .... hahahahhaha, I slay myself.

I guess I envisioned a slope of ground up to to bin. The ten feet vertical threw me  must be a pretty big bin or is it on the roof?

Pythagoras would be proud haha

I mean like a bulk material conveyor, with paddles on a chain or belt at the bottom of a channel, used to move bulk/granular stuff.

I put 12 ton in my basement with a conveyor this year. no reason it couldn't go vertical
