For a glycol filled attached garage loop, Has anyone ever used a Domestic hot water coil to heat a radiator or modine? The coil in my boiler has 3/4” npt tappings. Other than that I don’t see any info on keystokers website. This would be a lot simpler than using a exchanger.

Using the coil will work just fine.

It will have to be a pretty small modine. When the fan is running on them it takes a lot to keep up. You are going to need a small expansion tank for that loop also.

*Phil* beat me typing;

Just remember that all hydronic rules still apply.

Need a expansion tank, air removal vents, PRV (pressure releif valve), make-up water and of course a circ. pump too.
All the above needs to be glycol compatable for this proposed setup also.

Yes i understand it will need all the components. It doesn't get me out of anything but the exchanger.

How big of a modine do you think it could handle? I know one limitation would be the 3/4" pex or copper.

The math plays heavy on fluid temp and flow rate and physical size of coil (not pipe size) or HX...find all the unknowns.

If you have a modine size in mind you can work backwards with manufactuers data to find what would be required to have it perform to your needs.

Seems to be a 5 Gallon per min coil, boiler temp is usually set at 140/160, TT is crossed, so its always hot.
