We are getting ready for the winter. In the process of replacing smoke pipe and looking for a different approach for feeding my EFM250. We have been using our vac system to fill the 55 gallon landscape bucket that directly feeds the EFM250 (enclosed in wood frame). Our coal shed is outside the basement window. the coal would be vacuumed to a barrel above (white bucket) the 55 gallon landscape bucket that directly feeds the EFM250. The problem is the amount of dust created inside the basement and the cost of filters and among other things. Looking for feedback on a flex auger system for a permanent solution? I have recently removed the white bucket used with the vac system and just have the 55 gallon direct feed to the EFM 250. We are tired of the mess and hassle of the vac system.
Goal: To change over to an easier and cleaner way to get coal in the basement. Thinking about a flex auger system and just using the 55 gallon landscape bucket as a direct feed or using the auger system with a larger direct feed to the stove. Any feedback would be great to make the kids and wife happy.

Have you looked at the dust deputy from Onieda Air? Flex augers and cableveyors are always a possibility and they can be run through PVC pipe but perhaps a pair of dust deputies would help you more as they can be set up as a primary secondary dust collector or in parallel with with a bit of water in each of them.

Might locate the vac outdoors and yet be able to switch it on/off from indoors.
Mac look up on forum Jim from Macungie pa . .He has an outdoor bin with Auger underneath which connects to 4 inch pvc on 45 degree angleright to his rice coal container .I saw it no dust to speak of .jack

I have close to zero dust with my vac system. I do use a dust deputy and change the bags as soon as I notice a reduction in suction. I considered using an auger, but all I saw generated huge amounts of dust

Maybe it's an optical illusion but from the pic it looks like a gravity box or wagon placed outside the window could fill the feed drum directly, without the need for any vacs or augers.

Good morning Pacowy, mcguirehg,
A used Killbros grain trailer with the side discharge gate works well for this.
It would look nasty next to a house unless you paint it the house color but one could build a simple fence to hide it and still have plenty of height to use a high lift coal truck dump body to fill it.
I am not sure but one or more of the members has a used kilbros grain box with the side gate.
The grain boxes are rated by bushel capacity for grain crops so I do not remember what the rated weight of the running gear is though so one would have to check the with the nearest kilbros dealer.
Using slick plate paint would help to make it more slick but after my experience with it make me say that slick sheet material from horn plastic and using stainless steel elevator bolts would be simpler and less toxic as the fumes are not something you want to deal with even with a fan and a disposable welding fumes mask with the exhalation valve.

x2 Leon. Once upon a time I had a few of those. They aren't pretty, but can be easily dressed up. Try to take delivery in the summer so the coal has plenty of time to dry, and some kind of roof is essential to keep it that way. I used graphite/slipplate paint and as long as you're applying it outdoors it's not too bothersome. IIRC hoppers are readily available to adapt the opening for an auger or pipe connection.

You can buy the injection molded plastic receiving hoppers for a 4 or 6 inch standard auger pretty easily you just have to know what size auger you are going to use for the coal delivery from the grain trailers vertical door gate.
One could also adapt a vacuum system to it using small PVC pipe with 2 or more shop vacs to create the pressure gradient needed to pull the coal through to the bin or a stoker hopper and a pair of dust deputies to catch the fine dust.
