OK guys -- I am rebuilding a EFM520 ( square door) for my son. Pretty obvious the previous owner was pretty neglectful in cleaning out anything.
The hanging baffle/deflector plate is warped beyond using.
I can't seem to find one used anywhere, and new from EFM is $$$
Any thoughts on cutting one out of a good steel plate?
(original is cast iron)
Even if he'd only get a couple years out of a steel one, I can make them till the cows come home for next to nothing.
Would that work, or would a steel one warp beyond use quickly.
Thanks!

Weld a 1” brace the length of the back and it won’t warp so easily.

Pretty much what I had in mind.
Does cast iron take heat so much better, or is it easier for the factory to have them "poured" and not do much machining?

Cast iron is very durable in this type of application.
The baffles last longer in units that are run at a low feed rate. Once you get at 6 teeth or more the baffle really gets cooked.

Makes sense. The housing unit this came out of appeared to be a two story brick with zero insulation.
Probably ran at 6+ teeth for its life until now. It will be on easy street the rest of its life
