Hello members Is anyone using oiled coal in a coal gun to keep down the dust when loading? Does this cause and problems? Thanks

I immediately had repeated puff-backs from oiled coal the one and only time I tried it. Didn't have them before the oil, or after the oiled coal worked its way out of my hopper.
I used mineral oil from TSC. Perhaps I used too much.
Water works much better.

- Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
- Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
- Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood
My initial though is that oiled coal is not a good idea in an AHS or and Axeman Anderson. When the fire tries to go dormant during idle, volatile liquid on the fresh coal on top might cause a BOOM.
I would contact AHS to find out for sure.
