I use my cot vac cleaner that works really well. My issue is the barell. Metal one worked and rusted out. My plastics one is collapsing due to thickness. Any adivice on the type of plastic barrel I can use without collapsing?

What size? 55 gal?. My 55 gal plastic will implode if I don't pay attention but since I suck it into the barrels by hand, I can control the suction rate. I have seen 10 gal and 17 gal steel drums sold by dust deputy. Pricey but good quality. I use the 10 gal setup for my coal dust collector on my system. I made my own container above my hopper out of plywood that holds right at 105 lbs. Is making your own an option? Here's the thread on my setup.

OK, I have to ask, Why do you want to use a coal vac on an auger fed stoker? Can you just put the auger into the bin?

I use a ~12 gallon plastic container that held liquid laundry detergent for a hospital in a previous life. The walls are thick enough to not get sucked in, I measured them once but forget if it was 1/4" exactly. The 2" threaded bung on the top was perfect for the one PVC fitting and the other holes were easy to cut.
The only down side is it does not have a removable lid. My arm is too short to reach the top from the bottom outlet hole. So I couldn't use a threaded fitting in the other hole on the top I had to caulk that pipe in.

On my white plastic barrel I liked having a removable lid so I cut out the top and then friction sealed in a nice round plywood lid. Strip of rubber garage door bottom seal cut to length and then hammered down tight between the wood circle and the barrel cut out to make a 100% tight seal.
Friction seal lid allows, if ever desired, the removal of that plywood lid.
Hole saw used for cutting the holes to then use a pvc pipe male adapters w/ a conduit locknuts on inside to attach pvc fittings through the wood lid.
My white plastic drum w/ it's very thick walls has not had any collapsing issue but, if that were the case I'd prolly just cut a plywood circle as a thin donut shape and wedge it into the barrel taper for some added structural strength.
Obviously, do the donut rib brace inside the barrel and add the pvc male adapters to the top lid before sealing the lid down tight.

Currently working off a green pail for coal hopper with coal vac. We were going to fix the coal vac, but want other coal feeding but options first. We are trying to eliminate as much coal moving as possible. We have a window directly by our stoker, but would need to move our oil tank. I’m going to try to attach a pic of our setup for reference. We would want to do it right the first time and be done, not having to redo the project several times.

I merged your two coal vac threads together so all the information will stay in one place.
