My best guess is that the model number is the amount of steam radiation the unit can support, in square feet. That would be 144k btus/hr. You can probably call around and find someone with a spec sheet.
They are nice boilers. Other than issues with the grate, I have never heard much bad about them.

Isn't there a Losh guy in Schuylkill for parts? Water cooled grate in those as I recall. Looks like it's in excellent shape.

- Stoker Coal Boiler: Gentleman Janitor GJ-5, Van Wert VA-600, Axeman Anderson130 X3.
- Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
- Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
- Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood
This ain't no Keystoker. Some of the boiler is 1/2" thick. The DHW coil area is 3/4" thick. I didn't have any way of measuring it but the Losch 475 that I had the boiler alone was 900 to 1,000 pounds. I think the Losch 600 is the next bigger size. The 475 is about 147K gross and net is about 130K accordion to Whistlenut.
Pros-
The Losch was probably the most heavy duty residential coal stoker boiler made. The hopper is 1/4" plate steel. Big burn grate, lots of boiler tubes, a lot of water volume and a very large 3/4" DHW coil mean you will never run out of hot water.
It will burn anything you put in the hopper that fits through the feed hole. These units were originally designed to burn Barley size coal which was by far the cheapest. It still is if you get it right from the breaker.
Cons-
The water cooled grate only lasts 50 to 60 years before it needs to be repaired. I don't know if anyone is still around that repairs the grates. No new parts are available. I only know of one person that knows how to set up one of these bump grate stokers.
The good news is if the grate is bad and you can't fix it, with a little cutting and welding you can put in a different stoker.
Before you put any money down, check the DHW coil area and the grate for leaks, rust and holes. Hopefully this is still plumbed in so you can do this under pressure.

Spoke with the fella that has it, it was in operation until October last year when he went to a newer stoker..no known issues.
Might be a little concerned about it's size...I don't want too big a boiler....right now I have a royal wood boiler that is "supposed" to be rated at 150k btu..that heats house and 30x30 insulated pole barn.
Anybody in central PA(north of Harrisburg area)...that would wanna go have a look for me ?....I'm 3 hours west
