How is the work on the rest of the system going? Radiators, heat exchangers, etc?
I meant to answer this sooner, but got a little caught up in the moment. I haven't started any of that as of yet, but its soon to come. I have it planned out. For one end of the house (the new living room, our bedroom and the bathroom) I'm gonna put in a water to air exchanger and connect it the the duct work. I'll need to build a cabinet for it. For the other end of the house and upstairs I want to use baseboard rads. For the tanning salon building I'm planning to use water to air exchangers also but am trying to persuade the spousal unit that radiators are a better choice.
Edit - well just had a discussion about using baseboard for the tanning building. I think we're a go
AA update - she purred along nicely making hot water today, no problems.. starting to get a little bit in the ash tub, mostly stuff I used to start the fire.

The fan plate gets pretty warm lol. It showed 425 on the IR gun after a combustion call. Is that about normal? I noticed the new paint baking, I did use high temp paint there.
I think were getting to the point now that the ash sled has worked out the stuff I started the fire with and is now all pea coal in the burn chamber.
The fan only runs about 10 minutes at a time, probably 5-6 times a day. I can't get dressed fast enough after a shower to get down there while it's still running
Rob, I discovered one leak in my copper work yesterday. It's about 4-5 drops per minute right at the tempering valve. I put a small bucket under it. I might leave it go for a little while and see if it slows down or seals on its own, wishful thinking lol

All the heat from the fire chamber is sucked down the center part of the swirl chamber. That fan causes it to turn 180 degrees right at the fan plate. I'm surprised you only saw 425, it's a lot hotter than that inside!

One of the improvements that AHS made over the Axeman design is a thick ceramic insulator on the fan plate. The fan plate on the Axeman is probably the biggest source of heat loss on the boiler itself.
How warm is your basement now???
My first terrifying experience with a HOT Axeman Anderson.

Wow, yeah that was saaamokin!!! I saw a little smoke too, just the paint baking it seems and mighta got some antisieze hot on the bolts.
As for basement warmth, it is quite noticeably warmer especially when I stand directly between the boiler and headers, I can feel the radiant heat from both sides. The Clayton lost a ton of heat to the basement.
