I found this jewel on a Facebook ad about 5 days ago. It was posted for sale by the daughter of an elderly couple that had switched over to natural gas last year. The ad had just been listed the day before I responded to it. The trouble was that the boiler was 160 miles away and I needed time to arrange a pick up and a day off to do it. Fortunately she gave me first priority since I was the first to respond even though she had offers in the meantime. Lucky.
So my buddy and I show up there to pick up the boiler this morning and this thin built short 85 year old guy comes out to greet us. It turns out this ol guy had a side job of rehabilitating these units in his younger years. He spoke high and proudly of the AA. He was such a nice fella. He even helped us get the boiler across the garage floor by rolling it on steel pipes. He even gave me a binder full of user instructions, drawings and wiring diagrams, one dated 1964. We dragged the AA up onto the car hauler trailer with a winch and wood planks to slide across, it went very smoothly. I asked him if anything needed replaced and he said it ran fine when they took it out of service. The ol guy wished us well and looked at the boiler as if he were saying goodbye to an old friend.
I got this AA for only $500. Along with it the deal was a circulator, I'll post pics of that later on. The boiler looks a little rough but when I'm done with it she'll be a shining gem. I'm super stoked about this project. I'm starting from scratch with using hydronic heat. I'll need to install radiators upstairs and in the new living room and possibly a water to air heat exchanger for the first floor of the remainder of the house.

Looks pretty good Lee! It should either have an H stamp plate under the fire door or the older ones had the data stamped right on the boiler itself. It will either have the year of manufacture stamped on the boiler or the first 2 digits of the serial number are the year of manufacture.
If you are moving it in one piece, I would put a strap through the ash doorways and up around the boiler. The boiler is held onto the base with four 1/4-20 bolts. It would be better not to brake them.

Thank you for the great advice and downloads Don, I greatly appreciate it! I'll be sure to be careful with that respect when moving the boiler again.

Thanks BC, I'm really excited to see what I can do with her.
I know, right? That's why it was important I get a lucky with this much, I'm sure there will be much more expenditures for the rest of it.

Lee, Add these to the collection.
They are probably included in the other lists, but here they are separated out.
