This isn't very far from me. I've communicated with the owner and so far she's told me that she is out of town today and would get me more information tomorrow, which I will pass on. It appears to be in a garage or shed which would be better than getting it out of a basement lol. It looks like it could use some TLC but maybe it's a good find. That's all I have so far.

Keystoker Automatic Coal Boiler
Model # KA-6-1
144,000 BTUs
275 lb. hopper capacity
55 gal. water capacity
Bought new for $4500
Asking $2500 OBO

From those pics it looks a bit rough. If I were to guess it seems like the hopper was replaced probably due to rot? Worth a look though but at $2500... Eh.

I agree. It might be over priced. I don't see myself agreeing to it, but maybe there will be some throw-ins with it.

I'd take a real close look at the bottom. It looks like it was installed right there without blocks under it. The bottom of the tins and boiler might be roached...

eventhough it looks as if there was zero maintenance performed, as long as it’s not rotted thru it should be salvageable. The steel is thick on these and my k4 looked to be in similar condition but after I chiseled off layers of concrete like ash in the hooper area it was good to go. It would be a fun project for the right price. Take some more pics if you go check it out in person.

Hold the press fellas. I just found a KB-8 in much better condition for less money. 192,000 BTUs. Also not far from me. It was used in a shop that converted to natural gas. Pics to follow.

The thrill of the hunt!!! Do you feel the adrenaline rush, sweaty palms??!! Just think of all the instrumentation you can put on it to remotely monitor the thing!! Go Get 'em Lee!!!
(I am living vicariously thru all you boiler guys!)

Is a certain hand fed in your basement getting jealous. :)

You realize that once you pull the trigger on one you will need to stop browsing CL for them or you will end up with multiple boilers in a few outbuildings and multiple bins for different size coal.....A.K.A. a boiler farm! :stfu:

Lee, There is a AA_260 within your reach w/ a asking price of $2000. and says needs repairs.
Might negotiate it to your price range??? It could be a better deal in the long run w/o needing apparatus to load a hopper.

Definitely worth a closer look. ;)

EDIT: Corrected Price down from incorrect higher price.

If Lee doesn't get it, maybe Don will want to add it to the stoker farm. He doesn't have 260 yet!

Haha! Yeah poor Ashley, I hope I can find a good home for her. As for boiler farm, I better be careful, just look what happened to Stoker Don! That guy needs an intervention  love that guy!

Thank you Mac, Hotblast and nepacoal. I'm gravitating towards the stoker since my uncle has one and down the road we could split a TT of buckwheat size. I really do like those coal guns for their idling ability though.... a definite plus!

Lee, Buckwheat works in a AA/AHS/Eshland, so never a problem there.

I must point out that a KB-8 top of hopper is 54-1/2" before being raised on any concrete blocking. :annoyed:
You don't want to have to fill the hopper from upstairs, do ya? ;)

KB-8 specs:

Code: Select all

Total Capacity (ft^2) Steam - 800 Water - 1280
Recommended load (ft^2) Steam - 560 Water - 900
BTUH (thousands) Net - 134 Gross - 192
Water jacket (gal) 74
Smoke outlet diameter 9 inches
Hopper capacity (lbs) 315
Stoker model B (4 grates - 3" X 14")
Stoker capacity 30 lbs/hr (270,000 BTUH gross)
Dimensions 20" W 42" L 54 1/2" H
