KA6 Timer Replacement
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has or is using a different timer than the Tork 8301 timer? Mine, on the KA6 keystoker I installed new this past fall, has the pins wanting to fall out. I emailed NSI who makes the 8301 and the manager said they only replacement is the DG180A. I actually think they just discontinued this recently. This costs just $230.84 from ZORO. Anyone find something better/cheaper? Thanks.

Intermatic has a 1 hour timer (c8865 - $81) or a 30 minute timer (c8835 - $125) that many people use. My kaa-4 came with the 30 minute timer.

I wonder if your timers box got really hot and distorted the clock face?? Did you ask if you could buy a new timer wheel???
If you cannot purchase a new timer wheel I would replace it with an Intermatic timer as you can purchase spare timer motors for them. I have my 30 minute Intermatic timer mounted on my hopper away from the fire door.
You can purchase mechanical timers locally at an electrical supply house.
I had to replace the timer motor on the Intermatic 30 minute timer that was supplied with my boiler and it cost me $27 and change with the tax and the time to drive to and from town.

Are you referring to the "brass trippers" that moves the mechanical switch to the ON / OFF position.? If so they must be better than finger tight to perform reliably. If the timer disc still functions; have a go at new "trippers". Remember, it is all in the details, "read the frigging manual" mate!

Just had an issue with my intermatic c8835 timer laast night. Got hung up on a pin and I caught it at 3am when it was above 260 degrees. In anyone's experience, is it typically the timer motors that go bad? Looks like I have to order parts regardless. Its running fine now but I'll have a pretty restless weekend.

That is why the timer circuit should go through a high limit control. You are lucky you caught it.Zinj wrote: ↑Fri. Mar. 23, 2018 8:00 amJust had an issue with my intermatic c8835 timer laast night. You should be able to get a new timer motor.

You can buy just the motor for the timer. I purchased this one as a spare for my C8835 intermatic timer. I don't know how hard it is to replace but I wanted a spare on hand in case it failed and did not want to buy a $115 timer to sit on the shelf. These motors cost 25 or 30 bucks instead of buying a new timer for over $100.

Looking at the aquastat, the high limit was wired in parallel to the thermostat. Correct me if im wrong ( standard electrician not a controls guy here), I'd have to add a relay to cut the timer power?
Edit: high limit is single pole.

I do not have a relay to control the timer it is wired or need one on my KAA-4-1.
After I got rid of the 2 sets of junk hydrolevel controls I made sure the wiring was set up right with the following
in the timer:
1. white conductor-(clock terminal) to L2
2. black conductor-(switch common) terminal in timer to L1
3. red conductor-(normally open) to B1
I am sorry that you had to buy an entire timer for your KAA-6 that is unfortunate as they are less than $28. 00 with sales tax.
