If the chimney has a strong draft, or sees strong winds, 6" may not control the draft properly. You can try it and upgrade later if needed.

An 8" RC type damper would be ideal. I would install it on the pipe with the supplied collar.

Thanks Q....yeah, I'll have to get a strap mount for it. No one seems to make a 8x6x8 "T". Hey, 50 bucks saved is more coal!

I used an 8" tee with an 8x6 reducer, no cutting necessary

Could sell the 6" baro and skip buying the 8" tee and reducer. Probably end up being the same cost.

I have my baro mounted in a tee, and I would not doing it again. It seems to collect a lot more flyash than the ones I have installed right on the pipe.

I like the pipe mounted arrangement better myself.
Some of the complaints raised by users of the Type M Baro are likely ones mounted in a short tee as well.

The Fields strap and collar meant for baros has a much deeper throat, so it stays a lot cleaner as *RobR* has figured.
