My grandfather had a big stone house on the farm. It was basically 4 apartments and had a 5th tagged onto it later. When it was heated with coal, grandma used to open the front and back doors twice a day and it was always warm inside. They switched to gas in the mid '50s and she had to stop that. Never was warm enough when it got real cold.
