I quite accidentally came across a Youtube video of a Garn boiler that has been running for 25 years.

These are actually high efficiency wood burners that have a massive amount of highly insulated water storage. The owner in this video fires the boiler for about 2 hours every 3 days.
Interesting,

The Garn wood boilers are unpressurised wood boilers that need very dry wood and the two larger units require a lot of room meaning two car garage size so they can be surrounded by an insulation blanket using a wood or metal studded frame.used to allow the insulation to be wrapped around the top of the boiler.
They require water treatment to monitor the PH and algae levels and will need to have water added as needed.

That’s still crazy lol
It took me 20 minutes this afternoon to fill my coal hopper by hand and empty my ash pan, that will last me over a week.
I don’t have to cut split and stack coal either..

That's a good way to burn wood. For me, I prefer to have the boiler and fuel in my house. When the weather is crappy I am happy to stay inside and tend my boiler.
