If there is nothing to attach your come-a-long to in the direction you want to move it, I would just drill a 1/2" hole in the floor, drop in a rod or bolt and attach it to the come-a-long. If it's in the way down the road, hammer it out.

Bill, having the hopper 6' high is not ideal, but having the ash door 12" of the floor is nice - you won't have to bend over very far to access the ash tubs. If building a step allows you to access the hopper, and everything else lines up, it might be best to just set the boiler on the pad.

Good evening all thank you all for the advice I am still not sure which way to go I have not had time to really think about we have been really busy at work this is the first real snow storm of the season and no matter how hard you try to prepare the trucks for it all summer you still have issues it seem to take at least two good snow storms the get all the bugs out this year and last year it was spreader chains on the new trucks, they have poor welds on the cross bars and when you put a good load on them they come apart and pretty much go in to self destruct mode.
Rob I like your Ideal of building a platform and I was thinking that I could build a heat shield like CoalJockey did to protect the floor joists pipes and elect wires I was also reading where someone made a coal vac. with a five gal. pal and a shop vac. that was a really smart ideal.
Thanks again for your help I will try to get some pictures posted soon so you can see me my situation I also have to start at the pluming which is definitely not my strong suit
Have a good evening
M.M. Bill

Good evening all it has been a while since I have posted I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year. I looked for a specialist like McGiever found but could not so I had to give up and did the demo the old school way a hammer drill big hammer and a good bar it took about three hr. to do, all's that is left is clean up last night we had -26 F the oil boiler ran non stop all night and the two stoves were just purring away the cats and dogs pretty much planted themselves in front of the stoves and stayed there all night
I will be glad when I get the KA6 up and running here is some pictures of the demo
Take care every one

Ugh. That does not look like a fun project. It will be much more fun placing the new boiler and getting it piped in.

Now that I am getting close to hooking up my boiler I have a couple of questions I have notice that when you hook up your return lines you go to both sides of the boiler and you have a tee in the middle I think that I understand the reason for putting the return on both sides ( so it keeps the boiler temp even on either side ?) my other question is the tee a special tee dose it have a divider or scoop in it ?
Thanks
M.M. Bill

No ,just a regular tee.
Equal lengths makes for balanced, but that's pretty 'fancy',

Normal tee. If you go that route, make sure you include a union in your list of materials. Also make sure the nipples into the bottom of the boiler are TIGHT. The left return port on mine has slow weep when the temp/pressure drops. Cant do anything about it till I drain the boiler to tighten the fitting. Thought about using some Hercules sealer instead.

Sorry guys between the snow cold weather and January thaw I have bee really busy at work and have not have had time to work on the boiler I and going to start on again this weekend and will post more pictures I have run into a snag with the exhaust no one around here has a 9 to 8 inch reducer I have thinking about getting a 8" pipe and welding it in place then I would not have to worry about it any more not really sure which way to go ( I am not sure why they needed a 9" exhaust ?)
I am also thinking about changing the way I hooked up my boiler and hooking the feed from the coal boiler the feed to the oil boiler right now I have the coal boiler feed hooked the return of the oil boiler so it had to run through the oil boiler before it gets to the zones and I can not isolate the oiler boiler if some thing happens to it. If any one has any suggestions I am all ears.
I hope that all is well with everyone
Take care Bill (M.M.)
