Guys I need to test a tube type EFM boiler. What is a safe pressure ? Yes, with water.
Thanks Dave

15# would be enough would think. If it can hold it for 24 hours it's gold star time.

Your safety valve will open at 30 psi. I would hook a hose to it and fill her up and pressurize it to 30 psi or a little above and see if she holds. You should have at least 30 psi water pressure in your pipes so nothing special is required.

I believe there is a code spec that the minimum testing pressure is equal to 1.5 times the psi rating of the PRV and the maximum test pressure is equal to 90% of the boiler test pressure set by the manufacturer. So, in a hot water system with a 30 psi PRV, the minimum testing pressure would be 45 psi.

THANK YOU !
Mike I'll try the 45 lbs. Did not want to over pressure for no reason. A quick air only test found a bad DHW coil already. If thats all I find I'm a happy guy. It's a nice old 700 , real clean inside and out .

Test went well, a plug was weeping and the DHW coil had a pinhole too . She held 50 psi for 24 hrs. so I'm happy with that. I never tried to re-tubed a boiler, and this 700 was to nice . I prob would have done it if she was a leaker.
