Sand is the last thing Id use. /air between the individual grains is an insulator. With sand, there is almost none. Washed #2 native (not crushed)stone has lots of air spaces and will give you free insulation. It will not absorb ground moisture like sand. Honest....
Good advice. If you wanted to take it a step farther, you could run a drainage tile in the bottom of the trench on grade, and connect it to the weeping tile around the foundation.

OK then, if you can afford it , line the ditch with filter fabric and fold over on top before you backfill. The substantially equivalent thing would be to put a heavy layer of straw over the stone to keep dirt from migrating into the stone.

this was my plan after you suggesting line with #2's.

I will lay down the fabric, layer of stone, then boiler tubing in its corrugated piping, then fill around with #2's, then wrap fabric over top. this will connect to the footer drain when it reach's the house. so any water that happens to enter the trench will run through the stone down to the foot drain and out.

I will have more than enough left over from the site work to do this without additional cost anyways.

Thanks guys.

Does anyone have any good suppliers of flex augers? For coal ash removal, I cannot find any local dealers.

Thanks!

Do you think I could easily feed pea coal with this also out of a bin?

With the right equipment parts in the right installation configuration, yes, it can be done.
