Since Friday auger ran .6 hours, so 36 minutes, 6lbs/minute so 216 lbs. 54 lbs per day, used around 300 gallons of hot water, so 23 lbs of coal for DHW. It was crazy cold, I was to busy plowing though to keep record, I know yesterday the high was -5..

This month is pretty much a wrap, went by fast, only had one day off work. Was brutally cold for most of it.

The results are in.

Auger ran 4.3 hours, 258 minutes, at 6 pounds per minute,

1548 pounds, or 49.9/day.

1386 gallons of hot water, so 107 pounds of coal for hot water.

Total of 5,580 lbs for the season, since October 1st.

I burned 1884 pounds last January.

That's pretty good mileage there H.B. I would have thought most up in your area would burn closer to 3,000 pounds during a cold January.

These weird shaped coal burning contraptions are pretty dern interesting to say the least.

I’m ready for spring.. boiler is still chugging along with no problems, My coal is getting down to where I’m gonna have to hop into the bin and rake it a little over the auger.

Story time for April.

It has still been rather cold here, we’ve had some nice sunny days but it was 23 over the weekend, today it won’t get over 40 and rain.

Burnt 720 pounds last month, 24 pounds per day.

We used 1240 gallons of hot water. It took 96 pounds of coal for the month, or 3.2 pounds per day.

This thing still seems to smoke a lot, after the fan has shut off.

Are you sure that isn't water vapour? Not smoke?

I don’t know where it would be coming from. In the chimney maybe?

That’s very possible, it’s raining and very damp out.

So far this heating season we’ve used 9648 lbs since October 1st.

We used 216 lbs last week, 30 lbs per day, still heating the house every day.

How is the heating element in place of the DHW coil project going.??? I was actually thinking of doing something like that for shoulder season, but I was afraid it would make my electric bill go crazy.

Ok got some studs today, I’m drawing a blank on which aquastat I can use, I just need it to come on at around 80-90 and turn off around like 120. And can I get one that I can run my main 240v through straight to my heating element? So that I don’t have a bunch of relays.

Could I use this?

If it is rated for the voltage and can handle the amps draw of the htr. elements you can use it directly w/o contactor/relay...Ohms Law if you get stuck.
