Due to it idling so much, I’m sure it’s actually that my idle consumption has gone up, and not just the fan consumption going up.
I’m sure Larry can figure it all out lol

18 days on a hopper, there was prob 40lbs in there still.
462 pounds, 25.6 lbs per day.
Throughout the 18 days there was many heat calls. Next weeks highs are in the 60s so I’m sure we’ll have some more heat calls.
Pretty happy with the eshland.

Your set up is doing pretty well. I can barely get my 130M under 30 pounds per day. That is just for heating DHW with no heat calls at all.

How’s that even make any sense since I’m constant circulation and still heating?
I will say, my boiler is insulated pretty well.

Burnt 12,600 pounds this last heating season, October 17-june18.
Shut the power off 4 days ago to the boiler, yesterday I sucked the rest of the coal out of the hopper, about 50 pounds. Coal was still burning inside after 4 days of no fan or ashing.
Took everything apart, only had a build up of fly ash in my stove pipe, due to it being 8’ horizontal.
Have to cut out and weld in patches in the bottom of my hopper.
Then install the auger system.
Then have to finish installing the rest of my block and tile chimney.
Hoping to get this done over the long weekend coming up.
Also cleaned the boiler room and sealed the concrete floor.

Look'in good there H.B.!
Hard to believe, 4 days since the power was cut and it still has a fire in it's belly!
Tell us more about this auger set up. How big is it and what RPM will it be running?

It’s a 6”, Idk what RPM yet, I’ll have to setup the motor that came with it and see what it turns when I get it set up, I’m guessing very slow. Lol
This was off a eshland 500.

Alright with this big 6” auger, do I still just want 2” or exposed flights sticking out the pipe?

Hello hotblast,
With your auger or for that matter any auger used to transfer commodities you need to have the auger flighting exposed to carry away the material up through the tube and to the discharge point being the dump boot under the motor and pulleys.
You will only have an issue when the coal pile begins to shrink significantly as gravity will not let the remaining coal fall towards and down to the auger inlet under the dog house as you will need to shovel or wheel barrow coal to the area of the dog house to keep the auger supplied with Anthracite Pea Coal.
If you have the time would you be so kind as to upload picture images of the auger tube and the auger discharge boot, motor and pulleys so in that way it would help me to help you more with this.
I hope explanation this helps you with your decisions.

Likewise curious to see balance of auger assembly.
HB, Was this auger from a AHS-500 a factory design?...or a prior owner's adaptation?
Even a 1725 rpm motor would move a lot of coal in a hurry w/o gear reduction or large pulley reduction.
As far as the feed bin doghouse goes...gravity or "critical angle of repose" can be either freind or foe, good design by you will determine that outcome.
I do know us older guys would rather not need any hoe or shovel to make this all to work.

Lol I just want to know how much of the flights should be sticking out of the tube because I have to shorten it.
This is a factory setup from eshland/AHS.

It should feed just fine with 2 flights sticking out the end, I wouldn't go less than that. Before you cut it, make sure you have it mocked up and marked properly so you don't cut it to short.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Fri.
