You must live somewhere up near Rob's neck of the woods.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Wed. Dec. 13, 2017 6:13 amHere’s what we got for weather till Friday, next reload day, wonder how much coal it’s going to take?!

Current Goggle report says 13* in Chazy,a balmy 14* in Peasleeville...
14* was my 6 am temp,up to 22* now.
That S260 should have a very happy owner when temps dip down like this, no worry about capability.

I am very happy so far, water temp is set for low 155 high 165 still and it’s not skipping a beat.

No need to wonder. You could make like Larry and develop a lb/HDD figure from past consumption that you can use to develop your own estimate.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Wed. Dec. 13, 2017 6:13 amHere’s what we got for weather till Friday, next reload day, wonder how much coal it’s going to take?!

To many variables with domestic water and the boiler being in its own building. And I still don’t quite get the whole HDD thing.
Plus the fact that I use a set back control for temperature upstairs, and that the wife is constantly randomly turning the temp up.

If you know how much coal you burn when the boiler is just providing DHW, then you back that out of your calculation. To many variables with domestic water and the boiler being in its own building. And I still don’t quite get the whole HDD thing.
e.g. 25 lbs per day for the boiler to maintain temperature and provide DHW. You burned 500 lbs in 14 days...150 lbs of the coal (in theory) was for heating, 350 lbs was for heating DHW and the outbuilding.
go to http://www.weatherdatadepot.com/ and look up how many degree days there were for that period of time, and divide that number into 150 lbs. That will give you the average lbs of coal per heating degree day...which you can use to predict future coal consumption for a different temperature.
You can also use this figure to calculate the heat load of the house at different temperatures, but that is a lesson for a different day.

I suggest you start getting used to the concept of the wife as a random variable.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Wed. Dec. 13, 2017 2:30 pmPlus the fact that I use a set back control for temperature upstairs, and that the wife is constantly randomly turning the temp up.

And then what happens when the wife takes 3 showers on Monday and only one shower on Tuesday, and 2 dishwasher loads on Wednesday but none on Thursday,
The only way I’ve been thinking about being able to actually monitor it is with some type of GPM gauge for my hot water line, but then will my mixing valve change that outcome also?? To know exactly how many gallons I use, and then the temperature of the incoming vs outcoming water..

Another thing I have that I think I could use, is the heat requirements for each room from the manufacturer that built my home, tells me btus required for each room.
Although my basement isn’t calculated for that obviously.

My initial speculation is that the sum total BTUH requirement figure (if done carefully, properly, and honestly) is less than one would initially imagine.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Wed. Here is the spec sheet for the upstairs part of the house.
