I had forgotten that I have a box of those too.

A few used ones is enough for "just in case", along with the hardware and gaskets.

My EFM stoker got noisy for about 20 minutes then it got real quiet. Yup the rubber coupling tore then broke. New one on the way from Mark's Supply. I meant to buy one to keep one hand but forgot. Now I've got to wait for the USPS to deliver one. The way they have been lately maybe I'll have it by April! I should probably shop for a spare motor while I'm at it. What's the best source for this motor?

My Uncle gave me an aquastat about 20 years ago. Lucky for me that I had it stored when the newer style digital broke.
Spare parts is always a good idea. We do not have any back up heat.

What!?
I think someone told you a few times to keep a spare coupler and motor around.

I hope you ordered 2, that one didn't last very long for some reason. Less than 3 years.

I could give you a used one but I only have one for the older gearbox. It won't fit the new gearbox.

Something wasn't right with that coupler. Misaligned, something loose, etc. Look it over carefully before you install a new one.

I got my motor online.

I've jammed a hose over couplers and tightened them with hose clamps in an emergency.

Yeah I thought 3 years for that coupler seemed unusual but StokerDon and me both had our eyes on it when installed and its worked quietly for 3 years right up until it didn't. Everything certainly seemed tight and aligned. The Mark's supply guy told me there is a now a "new version" of the new version which was on my stoker. Maybe they were having problems with the rubber. We'll just have to see how this one does over time.

Thanks Don. I'll give the post office a few days to come through. I appreciate the offer though! I'm taking the opportunity to do a thorough cleaning of the boiler and vent pipe and enjoying a brief hiatus from ash detail while the oil burner does its thing for a few days. My house is warm but the basement sure isn't its usual toasty 75* and my family room floor over the boiler isn't its usual warmness. I'll be glad to get it fired back up hopefully later this week. It looks like I've got about 2 of my original 5 tons left.

Did you only order one? If you buy a spare it will never fail again. ;)

Unwisely yes. The parts place is 2 hours away from me. I'll ride up there after the season cause I want to get some other spare parts. Rob this coupling is a "new" new style. When the stoker shuts down it squeaks some. ????? I have no idea why.

It shouldn't squeak. You could loosen the gear box bolts to see if you can get it to self align with the coupler still attached.

Use a straightedge to align the coupling halves. Shim something if you must. Nothing eats a coupling faster than misalignment!
