I am going to cut 2 inch wide by 12 inch long holes in the tube with 8 inches between them and I am wondering if it will it start full of coal or do I have to make it shut off by turning the tube like the one I saw in a U TUBE video! I plan on using a 1 horse power motor turning the auger at about 12 to 18 RPM.

If it won't start full of coal it isn't going to work out very well.

I don’t know how you are driving it Ron but as long as there is enough reduction in gearing it should be fine. Slow speed = higher torque.

The frame is done, the auger is in and I am drilling the two inch holes in the 6 inch tube so I hope I can put coal in it soon then install the gearmotor!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!

THANKS and you have been a lot of help and I know you have told me the size of your auger and gear motor before but I forgot, maybe you can tell me again so I don't have to hunt for it. I WOULD LOVE PICShotblast1357 wrote: ↑Sat. Sep. 21, 2019 8:19 pmMy auger is always full of coal, no problem with mine.

Hmm, a 2" holes for pea coal to dribble through???? Where did this measurement come from????
Do you think you might want to do a "practice" test for the 2" hole size to see how that will work out for ya?...
Where's YOUR Pictures?

This is how I was going to build it, or just the 2 inch holes.

The holes need to be larger than 2”, make them as large as you can.

Will 2 inches by 12 inch hole every 8 inches work, there will be 14 foot of the auger inside the bin?

Once again, the hole needs to be larger than 2” wide. At least 4”. Your auger is 6”? Should have plenty room for a 4” hole.

If I put a 4 inch hole in the top or the tube 1/2 of it will be under the side of the bin as the sides are at a 45* angle why won't pea coal drop through 2 inch hole?
