Hello and good morning Ron,

If your auger has the cage on it you need nothing else. The cage prevents any large objects from being pulled in to the tube and jamming it.

If you purchase the same exact auger for the trailer to feed your exterior bin all you need to purchase for it is the injection molded heavy plastic tub that is offered as an optional accessory to allow the coal to just drop into the hopper and then into the auger and a large enough power cord that can be wired directly to the motor and near the electrical panel if you have an outlet mounted on the panel box or one near the panel box.

All you need to do then is purchase a very high quality tarpaulin large enough to cover the auger and hopper between uses.

But, do remember, that his trailer would be some 50' away from his outside bin...

I remember what he mentioned about the distance he has to the new bin.
I assumed that he was going to be able to back the trailer in to unload it or if he had a front hitch installed he could drive it in slowly making sure the safety chains are tight enough to keep the trailer from developing a mind of its own.

Backing a trailer up is like taming algebra it takes time and patience BUT a suicide knob mounted on the steering wheel temporarily would make the backing up easier to to-one must remember to remove it before going back on the road to avoid getting a ticket if the driver cannot have one legally. You can get them at TSC or at a John Deere dealer if needed.

Ahh, there is a fence in the way...

Hmmm, tight safety chains, that's a new one...good test to find that weakest link, eh...

Or practice in an open parking lot with cones...
Tight chains...
go crackle, pop, snap...
And take out you trusty spotter...
Physics can be your friend...
Or not...
Just don't be stupid...

If this fence is your neighbors fence it may be much simpler to at least ask if the fence could be breeched using a long 6 foot kennel panel in place of the inground section to allow access to your future coal bin?

A stockade panel from tractor supply will cost less money though so perhaps they would allow one of those to be used.

The portion of the fence that would be breeched will need to have fence stretchers installed and new straps installed to connect to the fence stretchers. The post that will be in the way will need to be sawed off with a
sawzall flush with the ground.

A six inch fifty foot long auger is going to take up as much room as a school bus and weigh well over a ton with the wheel frame and if you have no where to store it and protect the motor that will be an issue as the single phase 220 volt motors are not cheap. the other issue is maneuvering them as it takes a machine with a lot of weight to move them if the auger has a

A vacuum from Onieda Air and pool vacuum hose is going to be much less work for you as you can use a 15 gallon barrel for the receiving tank over the roof of outside bin. All you would need ot do is purchase the onieda cyclone for the barrel and cut a round hole in the bottom of the barrel to mount a toilet flange and gasket to hold a coffee can lid to create the pressure gradient (vacuum). Once the 15 gallon barrel is full all you would need to do is shut the vacuum off and the lid will drop down and the coal in the barrel will fall out into the bin. After it empties out all you need to do is turn the power back on and then the vacuum(pressure gradient will slam the lid shut and the vacuum starts working again to move the coal from the trailer to the bin.

Just to give you an idea some industrial vacuum systems are hundreds or thousands of feet long to do large vacuum jobs on a daily basis.

==========================================================================================

About the auger control there are several posts with information on optical controlled level sensors that are installed in the side of the hopper by simply drilling a hole large enough to accept the sensor and use a pair of flange nuts to secure it in place.

The sensor needs be to wired so that the power comes to the sensor first and then the leads are connected to the motor leads in motor splice/junction box. This is done so the sensor will shut off when the sensor no longer detects light and shuts the auger off instantly.

You have to decide how much pea coal you want to keep in the stoker hopper and whether you intend to leave the lid on the hopper or not.

www.onieda-air.com

I want you to succeed, please call Oneida Air on Monday and ask them what they would suggest with your situation as you have 60 feet or more to convey the pea coal. They will help you as they have a great reputation and good equipment.

If you explain that you want to use swimming pool vacuum hose to convey the coal to a dust deputy attached to small barrel above the bin and will be using a toilet flange and coffee can lid to seal the hole cut in the barrel to allow the coal to drop out when the barrel is full they will know exactly what you are doing

All you may need is a very large shop vac from one of the big box stores or 2 of them and a second dust deputy connected in series with the dust deputy as the first unit the vacuumed air enters and the two shop vacs connected in series with the first one connected to the dust deputy and then the first vacuum and the outlet of the first vacuum connected to the suction port of the second shop vacuum. The filters will last a very long time as the 2 dust deputies will remove huge amounts of fine dust for you. You just have to be very careful when disposing of the fines as the coal dust will have silica in it.

Use the same care as a day spent on a sandy beach when tossing those silica laced coal fines... ;)

Actually there is slim to none silica in coal dust...don't make stuff up when you don't know something...

The Earth justice article on 14, July 2014 written by Lisa Evans is an eye opener regarding coal ash if anyone is interested in reading it.

I dealt with silica dust exposure in my old job for 22 years and the dust control systems we had to repair and maintain in the mine where I used to work.
I was not trying to start an argument I only wanted to explain why silica in small amounts, coal dust, fly ash and bottom ash is not safe to breathe.

I have no objection to having those posts removed anyway.
