Aside from this bummer of a setback, here's to hoping that all has been going well of late.

Things must be going pretty well. No problems reported through the Spring. At least running out of coal is one of those "easy fix" problems.

Good luck Ron, we're all in this together.

<t>Thanks Don,
I know it's been a long time since I was on, but I did get more coal. This time I got LEHIGH, the six skids before were BLASCHAK and since I put the LEHIGH in I have had many outfires, not sure what is going on as I only had 1 outfire with the BLASCHAK. Any ideas as what is causing them now?? BTW it is also hard to get the LEHIGH lit, the BLASCHAK was easy.

Is one of the two better for my COAL GUN S-130 than the other and why??

Thanks again for all the help!!

Lehigh that I have burnt is less volital, but I had no problem lighting it with a torch and charcoal, and I never had an out fire.. sounds like u need to adjust your ash temp.

I'm worried that I'll have difficulties with Lehigh when next summer rolls around. The S-130 fire pot is much smaller, and my boiler idles for hours on end doing absolutely nothing, wherein Hotblast's boiler is always circulating. Those are factors that make a big difference. And I fear that only coal like Blaschak will prove to be suitable to the differences (just as it always has).

I think H.B. is probably right, Ron's ashing temperature might be a little bit too low. If you had a out fire with the Blaschak, the ashing temp setting was probably marginal for that coal. The fire is probably to high and thin.

Try turning the ashing temp up 5 or 10 degrees, leave it run for a few days and see what happens.

My combustion fan will go 12-16 hours without coming on, constant circulation or not, I consider that idleing.

When I shut down in May, I was burning 25 pounds per day, including heat calls. I use a lot of hot water, I want to find some type of gpm monitor to watch my usage.

It would have been interesting to see if you could hold your fire in July and August.

Hello Hotblast,

you can purchase an economical cold water meter from FarmTek.

www.farmtek.com

Item number #112520 Recordall polymer water meter 3/4" tappings $119.95 + tax and shipping

Be sure to read the notice about propostion 65 as regards cancer causing metals etc. , I am unsure if this applies to the polymer meter though.

It has ran though many 90 degree days without issue. I believe I documented it in my thread.

Results would not be "apples for apples" with a 260 having a different size standby residual fire size...bigger is better there.

If the 130 could have the fan air adjusted down for re-firing there might be a wee bit better chance to coax the fire back by slowly ramping back up the air instead of just coming full force. :annoyed:
