Coal Gun S- 130 Install

I was talkin about the pics from pintoplumber.

Idk how the dhw coil is setup as mine has the big plug in it. You will most likely have to shut down though to repair it, unless you attemp some boiler sealer.

Idk if they are washered, or pipe thread?

They are pipe thread inside and outside looks like 1 inch outside and 1/2 inch inside, no washers or gaskets between the nuts and the face plate.

How long will it take the fire in the COAL GUN to cool down ? Do I just shut it off or must I do something special ?

I've never tried simply shutting off the main power, but I gather that would completely shut it down within a few days. I either just let it run out of coal, or I scoop the coal out of the hopper so it runs out sooner. In the summer it can take about 21-22 days to run out of coal from a full hopper, and with the power left on. When I want to clean it out, I plan that far ahead.

Yes as Larry said it will take very long time!

Fastest thing to do, scoop or vacuum out the coal, and manually power on the ash motor till it dumps the fire, then let boiler coil down enough and drain it down only enough to repair leak.

I will try some boiler sealer first, if that don't work I will shut it down. I will return soon I hope. BE SAFE !!

How bad is it leaking?

If you are careful you should be able to depressurize the boiler, back off that nut, and snug it up with some pipe dope & tape on the threads. Please work safe - a jacket, gloves, and face shield would be a good idea.

Boiler seal is another option, if the leak is small that might be the way to go.

I used Hercules Boiler Liquid sealer on this one and it has not leaked since. The boiler needs to be at least 160 degrees for it to work so you don't need to worry about shutting down the boiler.

The leak is just a drip every 2 seconds or so, I am going out for the Hercules Boiler sealer and if that does not stop it, I will use a washer and a gasket behind the nut. THANKS AGAIN Just me Ron

You need to seal the pipe thread, no washers or gaskets.

The day I started the first fire I but in 2 bottles of the boiler treatment sealer that AhS gave me when I bought the boiler. Left to look for Hercules Boiler sealer, but the stores I went to did not have it and when I got back the leak had stopped. I still am gong to get the things I need so ill have them incase of future leaks.
Going back to the DHW coil, mixing valve and expansion tank install.
BTW its still gravity feeding and its 74 in the house, i guess ill deal with that after the DHW is hooked up. THANKS AGAIN Ron

Did you buy this unit brand new? Have you even posted pics of the install yet? I can’t remember!

Yes I bought it new about a year ago, just slow getting a fire in it.
NO I have not posted any pictures, maybe when it is finished if I can figure out how to do it
Got the DHW hooked up tonight all but the expansion tank, need more fittings will go after them tomorrow.
Took out first showers with coal heated water tonight, loved it.

Feeding that electric water tank, it’s going to take several showers to actually get coal fired water out of it, as you are mixing 40 gallons, it take a little while to bring it up to boiler temp.

Better have a mixing valve on the outlet of the HWT to protect you from the potential of scalding hot (boiler temperature) showers.
