Some fiberglass insulation with weather protection...
Should do the trick...
No paper face...
Rolled sheet metal with a 4" gap between it and sch 40 pipe...
Some R-19 batting....
Think red-neck metalbestos...

Well its time to revive this thread. I have finally had so time to work on this project. Working two jobs keeps me busy. I have two friends coming over next Tuesday to help get my supply and return pipe run into the house and get the chimney up. I will have all the wiring done tomorrow morning. I ended up purchasing a new hydrolevel 3200+ for my aquastat. I also ended up purchasing a digital temp controller with a relay and type k temp probe. So here we go the coal bin is filled. If all goes as planned I will be heating with coal in the Axeman by Wednesday night.

Well it was a productive day. I am thankful for friends and our tractor. Was able to get my chimney up. I am using a 13’-3” piece of 6” sch 40 pipe that my dad had laying here at the house. We got the pipe secured to the building and a hole cut to make a tee. I am glad that we have a tractor. I took the forks off of the bracket and we used the tractor to get the pipe vertical. Also was able to get valves installed in the house to isolate the coal boiler from the pellet boiler.

Are you going to insulate your chimney? If you don't, it may be a poor performer when linked to a coal boiler that puts very little heat into it.

Yes I plan on insulating the chimney. That will be in the spring. My second job has kept me very busy lately. I hope to get back on the project next week.

An AA isn't going to need an insulated chimney. Mine is short, less than 20' from thimble to the top and is cold as a stone. They need a minimal draft at idle and when running it makes plenty. Get a manometer and use it so you are in the know. I worried about mine because I had a lot of trouble with my hand fired. Freddy told me find something else to worry about and he was right.

Well I finally got some time to work on the boiler project today. Had a good friend stop up and help me get the piping done. I am grateful for his help. We must have run about 50' of black iron pipe today. Unfortunately we had one leak, but it worked out to be on the return side of the boiler where I wanted to put a union anyway. Also got started on wiring up the controls today. I need to get a timer and a new circulator. The circulator I had was leaking out of the weep hole. It was free, so nothing lost. I will just pull it out and turn it in for rebuild.
What is everyone using for timers now? I see Intermatic discontinued their 2E357 mechanical timer. Their website says it is replaced by a CT2000 percentage cycle timer. Anyone have any experience with the CT2000? Does not look to horrible to set by the instructions, but I do not like how there is not a specific set time, but just a percentage.
I have a tri-axle load of coal coming from Lehigh on Tuesday. Matt was great to deal with. Lehigh set everything up for trucking so I will see how it goes on Tuesday.
