Hey guys!So the last weekend I trucked down and visited Mattaus. Nice guy, very likeable fellow. Had a pretty good talk. Would have liked to stay longer and look at all the machines but the long ride home was calling. Any way I inherited a Gentleman Janitor that was featured in another post. My plans are to refurbish the unit into a good coal burner and install it in a friends greenhouse. I'm desperately looking for pictures, owners manuals, anything that would tell me the story of this unit. Anybody have any info to pass along? I'd really appreciate it! :) Scott

Are you saying that you bought the Gentleman Janitor from Matthaus?

Oh No...
Another member sucked into the evil web.....
Does Europachris know about this yet?

Now you must post a huge amount of photos detailing every last detail of the rebuilding of this unit, including long descriptions of everything you do.

I'll tell you what. For as many boilers as the made there isn't much out there on Gentleman Janitors. I run a GJ 5 and love it. They are the simplest underfed stoker out there. The only shortcoming is the feed adjustment is a little tricky but get past that and you'll be all right. With a little tinkering you could get a dark spot like the efm's.

Mike, how do you tell what rating they are? There is no info on the nametag. Just model/serial numbers. As far as posting pictures of the build, I'm really camera shy :) That Alaskan's a hard act to follow. :) Scott

I would love to see photos, though. It just takes time and a lot of (dirty) work.

I'd like to see a picture, otherwise everything gets painted shiny silver. The important parts, '69 corvette green. :) Scott

Well if you know the model number and had a old sales brochure you could get the BTU's. I did see an old brochure but wasn't able to get a copy at that time. Hopefully I'll see the guy again in a couple of weeks. I do remember it seemed like they were underated from the factory i.e. the factory 120,000 BTU boiler was probably closer too 170,000. Anyway good luck with it. There really isn't too much to go wrong with a gentleman janitor so you shouldn't have any problems.

I'd like to see some good pics too! My father had a stoker growing up in Clarks Green, PA and I'm trying to figure out what it was. It burned pea coal (so he said) from a bin with a worm and the ashes were hauled out in tubs from a pit under the stoker, I recall him saying. It wasn't an A-A, so I don't know what it might have been.

Oh, here:

Well,,,,,, here we go. I haven't posted pictures yet so bear with me. I'm new at this computer stuff! So the parts have all been sandblasted with the exception of the boiler. It was in great shape other than a small film of rust in the firebox
