Well another Boiler delivered and another adventure completed.

Picked up an Axeman 260 for Greg Long a few weeks back, you probably saw the winching process as it went up on the trailer in the "For Sale" thread. flyer5 (Dave) and I discovered that fellow member Lee32768 is as much a junk collector as many of us are here on the Forum (names withheld to protect the guilty ). Dave was nice enough to store the unit on a pallet in his barn while Greg and I figured out the best way to get it back to Michigan.

Greg was planning to come and pick it up when I realized my Robotics Competition in Cleveland last week would bring me pretty close to Michigan, so I got the bright idea to rent a cargo van for the trip and bring the boiler (the blue Dodge needed a rest and besides forecast showed some nasty weather coming).

Long story short Dave and I discovered that the boiler wouldn't fit standing up on the pallet..... so after laying on it's side it was neatly stowed into the back of the van on it's Pallet, thanks for the tractor services and the pallet Dave! I now had the required weight over the rear wheels to negotiate the impending snow storm forecast for my planned travel to Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Greg and I made the transfer on Saturday in the parking lot of the Cleveland State University Arena.... we figured a way to get the two vehicles at the same height and were just about to make the transfer when the university police showed up and wanted to know why we were attempting such an unsafe act!

Well after a little discussion and chocking the front wheels to make them happy they left us to the business at hand. Here are a couple pics, batteries went dead in the camera.

Agreed Dave, love the type person that is drawn to a forum like this and the flow of ideas and exchange of information.

Don't worry Sting, we can arrange for a unit to make it's way across the great divide. Just find a unit you want and there will be a way to get it to you, besides it appears Greg might have an extra 260 in a few months (after he is done figuring out which one to keep).

That tremendous metropolis on the south end of Lake Michigan is the great deride!

Ill do almost anything so as NOT to have to travel thru the loop or the belt-line from here to your side. But sometimes it is simply "necessary" to live outside my comfort zone.

Ill fly to Ft Drum in New York state late this fall and Ill have a 3/4 ton pick up to drive back to Wisconsin - That would carry a prize thur the Chicago abyss --- yet to be determined!!!

If you're already going to be at Ft. Drum.......

Maybe you could "borrow" a duece and a 1/2 and carry the prize and a load of coal to boot home with you in 1 vehicle.....

I'm sure that would get you through the congestion at the south side of the lake.

Next time, check out renting one of those Dodge Sprinter vans. They have nice high rear openings on them. And some come with a Mercedes diesel in them for power. Very good on fuel economy with a load in them.

Thanks for the suggestion, kinda like those Sprinters. but at a mere $1,200 a week plus milage fee over 750 miles not exactly in my range of options. Actually would really like to have one of those, but for now the rental of an occasional Chevy 1 ton cargo van for $300 a week, unlimited milage will have to do.

Besides 800 miles at 25 mpg times $4.35 per gallon = $139.20, the Chevy was 800 miles at 14 mpg times $3.13 per gallon = $178.86 saving ~ $40 on fuel cost not hardly worth the price of admission. Of course my expenses are paid by the Robotics controls company I volunteer for so is all good.

I have a terrible urge to get in the truck and go buy a ton of Superior coal..........

The only thing I could think of was when Mathaus (an engineer ) says "don't worry it'll fit I measured "I figured was its gonna be a looong day .

Soooooo, just curious, nosey, ect, what does Greg want with an extra A260? Or does he have "THE BUG" bad!!

This AA 260 has some extra spare parts and some interesting modifications that I might put to use for my coal burning. I'll put one of the two, fully rebuilt up for sale this fall. If I find time to do the rebuild..

He measured the van in centimeters and the boiler in inches... A common engineering mistake... Especially around NASA
