Seeing as its summer here i thought i would try something that i have been musing about for the last couple of months.
Its couple of DH48S-s repeat cycle timers and a DPDT relay set up to reduce the already minimal amount of smoke that comes out the stack when the boiler cycles off by keeping a low flow of air up thru the firepot for 5 minutes after the stoker shuts off, this allows the volatile's in the green coal to burn off in a small gentle 2 to 3 inch high flame that doesn't cause a temperature overshoot ...i got them wired in a bit over a week ago and they are working pretty well.
I figure that most of the soot that accumulates inside the firebox and on the heat exchange passages is caused by the smoke that comes from the off cycle so if i can reduce the smoke it will mean less soot accumulation and a more efficient boiler.
