Good size air leak around the base or access door for ash bin might also cause the symptoms you experience.

Get the fire right and then judge results. The boiler tubes are clean?

I cleaned the tube a few weeks ago, would need to be done again, however the performance has not been worse. I'll be calling Matt in the morning. We'll go over everything. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to diagnose and repair something remotely without seeing how everything is built. :)

Stryker.....those two small knobs in the control panel actually are critical, because they set the delays and other timing features, HOWEVER the sequence in which they are adjusted is critical. Please re-read the manual, because the sequencing is explained there. You have to use the same logic as designed, so please do not adjust them after you and Matt resolve the set-up. Good luck, because I just looked at the 10 day chiller forecast for Caribou. OMGawd!! Get a pad of paper and a pen to make notes as you two converse.

PS: When is the last time you had a conversation with the CEO of anything?
Personal cell phone in the owners ,manual......you will be well treated and coal consumption will be as good as it can be. :D

Matts been working hard, no doubt about it. I also have environmental issues that we'll talk about tomorrow. The two little knobs do nothing. I've read the manual 15 times and they never react to anything. I don't touch them anymore.

My garage is situated/carved into a hill and I have many and I mean many trees surrounding my garage. This may also cause some issues not sure, but I think I may need to do some trimming next spring.

I talk to CEO's all the time. It's a sign of a great company! I used to work at a hospital where the CEO continuously visits the patients, and staff, I currently work for the District Attorney and we hang out all the time. He's a great friend and my boss. Lol! Life is great isn't it?

Stryker...maybe I missed it but has the flue pipe been cleaned of fly ash within the last 2 ton of coal you burned?

Matt and I just got off the phone together, we've found some obvious answers and also discovered that my rheostat was not functioning at all. He'll be calling my service guy and getting this figured out. I'm sure that with more tweaking I can get away with five tons for the heating season. Thanks everybody for the input. :D

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction.

And it also sounds like the problem nowadays is the parts just don't hold up like they used to.

Great you are headed the warm direction! Could you please share the 'obvious answers' besides the rheostat?

And a pic or two of the boiler is always welcome!! :)

Or it was never wired properly in the first place.

Unlikely since they are tested and adjusted when they are built. Infant mortality for electronic parts more likely. But hell nothing surprises me anymore.

Doubt you will find the correct assembly there.

Well, I was thinking those controls were wired by the installer...but as you said, could be a failed part.

Thinking that it is wired incorrectly. The obvious issues are the trees surrounding my garage are thick, and about 60 feet taller than my garage, my home is built on land that was carved out the side of a mountain, so very, very little wind here. I will need at least two more sections of insulated pipe above my roofline. Also the exhaust out of the boiler is likely full of ash buildup. I will take the flue off and clean it.

BTW last year I had a draft inducer installed and all that did was suck all the heat through the chimney and my money out of my wallet. We'll see how this runs when the rheostats are repaired. Now I'm going snowmobiling! Lol!
