Need a New Motor

Stoker Coal Boilers automatically feed the coal and have controls and pumps just like any conventions boiler. They are intended to be used as a primary heat and often have domestic hot water coils as an added bonus. They can be set up independently or in dual sytem with your existing oil/gas boiler. They can accommodate both hot water base board or steam plumbing.

After a fast flood in my basement last week, the motor motor on my EFM 450 started becoming increasingly noisy, and now has stopped working. I took the whole thing apart, made sure all water was drained, oiled, etc. but it really didn't help. The current motor is a Dayton. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could start to find a new one. I am guessing that It does not have to be a Dayton motor (correct?). Also, is the motor on the 520 the same as on the 450?

Just get all the numbers off the data plate. You can get them from Grainger, Ebay, local supply hous or whatever.

Welcome to the forum,JeffR,you did not say where you are located, but surely there is an EFM dealer not too far away from you. Get the motor from the dealer & have the RIGHT one for the job,yes the dealer might get $5.00 more but he will be there for you when things go wrong & you need help.

If there are no dealers closeby, you can look at places like Grainger.com for matching units. If you have the 'specs plate' data, , any electrical supply house can get one....ebay is a good place to look also. They are not hard to find, but you need to have your info with you. I see you are in the heart of EFM country, so do some quick searches and you will be a happy camper in no time!

EFM 450 or 350? ;)

It does not have to be a Dayton replacement; in fact, if you get one from EFM it will likely be an AO Smith. I am running a Marathon motor on mine, perfect fit and smooth operation. Item # 4782 direct from Marathon.

You can use quite a few different motors on these stokers, but I like the one listed above the best. They are QUIET and maintenance free. Nearly anything that bolts up and is enclosed (or has a dust cover) will work, but the 1/8hp units are the most quiet at startup and usually the least expensive.

If you have a local EFM dealer, give them a call and ask for a price on a new motor and the cost to swap your fan over. Sometimes those fans are miserable to get off, and if you bend or ruin the fan...you just doubled the cost of the repair.

One more thing, I'd change that gearlube if the stoker got "wet".

Thanks for the help everyone. I found a local motor place that had a Marathon replacement. I'll be putting it in this evening. Send good vibes!
