I'd replace the chain also. It is probably stretched, and has a wear pattern to match a worn sprocket.

Damn they're closed. This sucks. Guess I'll be putting on the pos gas boiler after the fire dies out. If the fire is good by time I get home then I might just keep it going.

Sorry, I've been without internet and power for a few days.. had an ice storm here in Michigan..
My AA does just fine with power outages. even after 12 hours with no power to the boiler, the fire is ready to go. It just takes a few minutes to get up to full heat.

Vampiro, you can Just keep the coal supply tube at the top of the transfer head full of coal. and hand ash every hour or two. you can run it without the auger turning. Might as well use the coal heat. The fire won't go out for more than a day or more.

Did you take the gearbox apart and look inside ?? sometimes the chain and sprockets are binding from worn teeth and stretched chains.

45* should work for the angle of the floor of the hopper. sorry, no line drawings of the hopper. It's just 4 2x4's in a square about 55", with a sloped floor. the hole in the bottom opens at the end of the auger. I can remove the side of the wood 'doghouse' to clean out the fines that accumulate. but the last few years, I just ran the coal all the way down, then used a small shovel to force the fines into the auger, and burnt them up. As long as the fines don't get wet and turn into black mud, they will feed into the auger with the coal, and burn with the coal.

I will be getting my Euclid gearbox rebuilt. Instead of the slip ring, I'm going to see if I can have a shear pin installed instead of that slip ring. Well see what happens. Should be a few day turn around. The gears are in great condition, no messed up teeth etc.

Does anyone know a good place to buy boiler insulation? I am going to start insulating the pipes and the AA-260. Shame, because I liked the way the paint came out, but I will paint the new insulation. I need the fiberglass Matt's, the fiberglass cloth, the clips and the paste. I am experienced in boiler and pipe lagging, so this will be fun for me.

Thanks. Ppl are away that are going to rebuild my reduction gearing. Am waiting on them for a return date of the gear box.

Thanks

I have run a few tons of nut coal in my 260M this way. Just make sure you always replace the end plate without fail.

I found some places that sell the fiber blankets, and cloth. They sell in really large quantities so I have to find a place that sells smaller rolls.

Also I ordered a manometer and some extra co detectors.
