This may sound like I'm cheap but-
I have decided to order the wl110 and am working on what options I really want. The clean out and 5gpm dhw coil are two must haves, a power venter too. But figured not to upgrade the Hopper as I want to install a power feed for coal over the hopper anyway. Does that lid really need to be on there? It's not a big deal as I am using a vacuum system and have room to open the lid, but install would be cleaner if it can be removed. Coal chute leading to the hopper is flexible too, so I may just mount to wall and open lid as it's being filled, just a thought.

I have a 110 too. What does a hopper lid do? I know they gave me one somewhere but I lost it two years ago.

Well yes and no. Get your coal sprayed with a little oil and that keeps the dust to zero and the lid is not required.

Search hopper fires.

If your draft and over fire pressures are correct and all maintenance is properly done there is very little to no risk of hopper fires on our units. I usually leave my lid off as well.

To add to this the only times I have heard or seen a hopper fire on our units is with a power venter and no baro was one, the other was a improperly adjusted baro.

Not to correct my friend Flyer5, but the hopper lid should always be on any LL product when in operation (the manual states this). While there is little issue with Hopper fires the draft problems evident when moisture is shown in the hopper lid will be missed if the lid is not installed. Also when the coal runs low a slight sulfur odor can be present with the lid off depending on draft.

thank you, now if I can just stop procrastinating and get the circulators & controls moved to the new boiler location ,I'd be all set when the boiler gets here. Probably start when the snow flies! Sad it's what I do for a living too.
