Power Outage, 10 Hours.

Coal burning veterans will not be surprised, but last night we lost power for 10 hours. So I went down stairs and killed the power to my 520,(she still needs a name) and went to sleep.

In the morning,10 hours later, I hit the switch for power to the 520 and she came right back to a nice steady blaze ! The boiler temp was at 110 deg. in 5 min there was plenty of DHW for a shower. What a contrast to all my years of wood burning.

Hey Dave where are you from? Last night my power flicked off for a minute and back on and then off...did this about six or seven times over a 25 minute period.

Great story about your 520 and coal . Coal sure is easier and at my age I sure enjoy that ease . I too burned wood for about 35 years and I never regreted a minute of it even though it was hard work at times . I would have heat when there was no power etc. and I loved working with the wood . I guess it is what you are brought up with , my dad , grandfather burned wood . I sure understand people in coal country loving coal like they do , it is what they are use too . If it wasn't for this forum I never would have considered going to coal for sure .

So true hcarlow, if not for this group coaching me the wood stove never would have gone. I love it more every day.

Anthony, I live in Ct. east of the river. If your power blinks real hard or just goes right out and then comes back on, most of the time it is a reclosure dumping and closing back in. They react to any over current on the line up-stream. Good little work-horse's that help keep your lights in a storm.

I have worked on these type of systems ..

Naw it was more of a power out for 4 minutes then back on then out for maybe 7 or 8 minutes then back on... all good after about an hour of this nonsense didnt know if you were close to my locale experienceing the same. Little further upstream from me you are

Must be the rice coal, I can only get about 5 hours out of the van wert and it will have to be relit.

That is definitely part of it, I never had an outfire until I started burning buck.

She is burning rice Richard. And when the power went out I hand cranked the pot full, pushing up a large supply to burn.
The first ton I brought east was from Keystone,very nice. Now i'm into the pile from Leighi coal,also nice,smaller though in sizing.
