Finally got the 700 up and running. Lighting it was a little pain in the ass and getting system bled took a while. Here are some pics please comment on the fire. I turned air up to 5.5 and 4 teeth on the feed. I do not think I have the feed high enough. The coal look a little dished in the center of the pot. It has not shut down in 4 hours.

Very nice, I can't comment on the fire. But it is a hell of a glow. Congrats on getting it up and running.

In the first pic, especially, it looks like it needs more feed. After a long run you should have, at most, about 2" of ash on the outside of the ring, and a black circle of unburned coal in the middle. And it should be buck.

I am going to use all the zones but 1 Who knows I might make a hog scaulder with the extra one. It really has a hunger for coal. I bought some blashak rice. The stuff is soaking wet out of the bag. UAE harmony here I come. It has burned at least 2 bags in 4 hours. The old c70 is sitting in the driveway still smoking, I took it out hot at 7am this morning. Nothing like a little pressure, no other source of heat so it had to be up and running. It was like 26 here today.

I'd empty some bags ahead of time to "pre-drain" the coal as much as possible before feeding it. You'll probably need to keep a close eye on the fuel-air mix as you transition to drier coal, and also if you switch sources.

Thats alot of heat load and certinly beats throwing half a pick-up truck load of wood on the fire

Good work. I know how much work it is to install a boiler...especially if you do it in your "free time".

About the fire...try going to 6 teeth and see how it looks. Mike already described the ash ring to look for...about 2".

About the coal...rice or buck will work (or a mix), but buck will breath better at high feed rates. UAE burns nice, but if you are not too worried about ash content, there are plenty of other options.

I think UAE is the closest to me. I hope they have buck. The Blashak is so wet I have to bust it up 3 or 4 times before opening bag. Is the wheel on the wilburt timer supposed to rotate. Mine does not. It is wired correctly. Luckily it has needed to run enough to not need the timer yet. Do you think that an indirect could make 160 degree water. It takes about 30 gallons to scauld a hog. I turned feed up to 8 or 9 it is better but still no black pile in center.

Make sure you have the hot & neutral oriented correctly on the timer. If it is backwards the wheel will turn backwards, and the switch will catch the wheel and stall it.

Get that bagged coal stacked someplace warm and get it thawed out. Dump the bags into a drum or a tote so the water can drain. Yes on the indirect, you could easily have 30,50, 80, or even 120 gallons of 160F water on hand. About the dark spot, it is tough to see sometimes...when the stoker shuts down after a long run the coal in the middle should be darker than the rest.

Phil,

I quoted this because this happened to me! In my case it was the internal wiring on the Willburt that got swapped at some point (two spade terminals if I recall correctly). The wheel would spin until it got to the notch, then the switch would stall the wheel. Basically it would keep the stoker on full time until the high limit was hit. This is a good way to waste coal and make sure that the high limit is working correctly though :D .

Manually move the timer and take a mental note of the position. Wait 5-10 minutes and check the timer again to see what direction it is rotating.

The wilbert does not run. Any body have one for sale. Also why would the zr terminal on the aqua stat have 120 volts when it is not hooked up.

That is odd. With no wire connected to that terminal you are getting 120v? Check your PM's for timer info.

Phil,

If by aquastat you mean the honeywell boiler control the zr terminal gets hot when there is a call for heat and the water in the boiler is between your limits. In fact that is the source of power for the stoker on mine. See if the power goes off on high limit or no call for heat.

Waldo
